What does your business do for women?

What does your business do for women?

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2019, Sufiyeh Hadian-Clark Fashion & Luxury Lifestyle writer asked our founder, Jodi Muter-Hamilton five questions for The Sybarite, here’s the answers.

What does feminism mean to you?

Since having children it has grown to mean something more than It did previously as I now think about how I can help my daughter and son understand what it takes to get on in life as a woman. Running a business and paying childcare costs certainly sharpens the mind. For me, feminism or being a feminist means tackling the problems that prevent us from being where we want to be. I want to approach this as I do with everything else, from a place of positivity, but even that can be challenging due to the uphill struggle of say closing the gender pay gap. A positive element is how we can all come together to make these changes happen.

How are you celebrating International Women’s Day?

It's great to see that IWD become more of a week-long celebration/campaign rather than just one day. Also, it gives us a chance to think about how we could be more impactful. So I've been making sure that this week I'm taking time to put ideas that have been in my mind for some time firmly on the agenda. Which involves working with amazing women on projects that help us all to further our vision, businesses and hopefully, the wider fashion industry and people in general! Alongside this, I’m attending Women In Innovation X Farfetch event, and writing an IWD article that will appear online at Proximity Insight (a retail tech firm I work with, which you’ll learn more about below!).

What does your business do for women?

When I created Black Neon Digital I did not intentionally feature or work with only women entrepreneurs and visionaries yet to date we have only released one podcast with a male guest.

I currently work alongside Cathy McCabe, CEO, Proximity Insight, whom every day I’m blown away by her approach and knowledge. Having worked her way up since age 15 as a Woolworths Saturday girl, to VP at Burberry, CIO at Jaegar and now CEO at Proximity Insight, Cathy’s vision for the future of retail is truly inspiring. Not only does she have the vision, she knows how to deliver it!

I’ve also been fortunate to have met Tamara Cincik, CEO & Founder Fashion Roundtable as our vision in so many ways for creating a sustainable fashion industry aligns perfectly. As Communications Partner for Fashion Roundtable, I’m looking forward to seeing the business achieve it's potential alongside helping the fashion industry to have a sustainable future.

In addition, Leena Bhatti and I are working on Ibiza Fashion Summit 2020, which is going to be a very special event.

So through Black Neon Digital I inspire and support people to build businesses that have integrity. These people and the audience for Black Neon Digital’s podcast tend to be female. I feel this is because women want to create with purpose and impact. However we are exploring this in more depth as creating a wider more diverse reach is important.

How are you helping empower yourself and other women?

Through sharing my own and other people’s knowledge and stories, including how they approach their business to create positive change, I aim to empower others. Naturally, on this journey, I’m learning all the time, which is so inspiring and empowering. Knowledge of self, the world we live in and understanding how we can use this knowledge to create impact is the key.
